“The transformation of the Μunicipality’s development model will be decisive for the whole region. Claiming our participation in the “100 Climate Neutral and Smart European Cities by 2030″ is a leap into the future. A leap, in the sense that we claim to achieve by 2030 what the rest of Europe will achieve by 2050”, underlined the mayor of Kozani, Lazaros Maloutas, during his presentation at the 1st thematic stakeholders’ workshop on Urban Transformation.
The 1st thematic stakeholder workshop took place in the context of the Municipality’s preparation for its participation in the Mission. The workshop was organized and held with the support of the Cluster of Bioeconomy & Environment of Western Macedonia (CluBE). The event was attended by representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD), the Ministry of Energy, the SDAM, the CERTH, the Bank of Attica, the University of Western Macedonia as well as other key local stakeholders.
The topic of the workshop was Urban Transformation and was comprised in particular of subtopics related to Mobility (traffic and urban mobility), Buildings (construction, use, retrofitting of buildings) and Infrastructure (municipal infrastructure – lighting). The workshop was moderated by Mr. Antonios Tourlidakis, former rector and Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Western Macedonia.
It is concluded that the Municipality of Kozani is paving a new road, investing in innovative solutions, transforming the local economy with the citizens and for the citizens. In this regard, the participation of citizens is considered crucial.
