The content of the Declaration of Climate Neutrality, “Kozani 2030 – A Green and Smart City”, lies at the heart of the European Green Deal and is aligned with the EU and Greece ‘s commitments on global climate action under the Paris Agreement (Accord de Paris).
The Municipality of Kozani is going to elaborate short-term and medium-term development strategies, which will lead to achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, through a socially just transition in a cost-effective way.
Achieving climate neutrality for Kozani, an area previously characterized by the highest carbon intensity in Europe, and which to this day continues to face the consequent environmental degradation, is an innovative development strategy, which places the Municipality of Kozaniin the global community of municipalities that declared a climate emergency.
Transforming the local economy with the citizens and for the citizens, towards a development perspective that will bring economic benefits to all, will create business opportunities and new jobs, while contributing to the saving of resources and the improvement of the well-being of the citizens.
The local community as a whole, as well as all sectors of the local economy, will play a key role – from the energy sector to industry, mobility and transport, building infrastructure, education, information and communication technologies, agriculture and forestry, sustainable tourism.
With the valuable support of specialized partners, the Mayor of Kozani, in the next period will submit the Action Plan which will include the necessary actions to be taken to achieve the target of climate neutrality by 2030, with the ultimate goal of the participation of the Municipality of Kozani in the EU Mission for 100 Climate Neutral Cities by 2030.
