The Municipality of Kozani is one step closer to creating an Energy Camp in the ZEP area after signing the program contract with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The development cooperation of the Municipality of Kozani with the School of Architecture of AUTH concerns the maturation of the techno-economic parameters for the creation of the Energy Camp and a Living Circular Economy Laboratory in the Municipality of Kozani. The contract was signed by the Mayor of Kozani, Lazaros Maloutas, and the Associate Professor of Architecture of the AUTH & scientific manager of the project, Themis Hatzigiannopoulos, on Thursday, December 7, 2023.

As Lazaros Maloutas emphasized, “Our goal is to make ZEP a National Sustainability Hub. Today there are two buildings with principles of bioclimatic design with RES (Model Bioclimatic Primary School Complex – Kindergarten & Model Integrated Care Nursery), while projects such as the Technology Dissemination Center, the Swimming Tank and the Technical Education Infrastructures – EPAL are in the tendering phase. Also in the area, the University of Western Macedonia is adjacent to the Data Center. The Bioclimatic Park, the Energy Camp and the Neighborhood Shop will also be in the ZEP. Our strategic goal is to take advantage of every possibility, so that the local community can respond to the challenges of the transition to a new production and development model”.

The object of the programming contract is the preparation of the planned studies and the launch of the preparatory actions with the aim of maturing and documenting all the techno-economic parameters in order for the Energy Camp to be included for implementation in the Just Developmental Transition program of Western Macedonia or in eligible financial tools in a European, national or regional level. The research project is financed by the Special Development Program of the Municipality of Kozani 2012 – 2016.
