The innovative program of separate collection of Hazardous Household Waste starts today in the Municipality of Kozani in collaboration with DIADYMA SA. For this reason, on Friday 28.04.2023 at 12:30-14:00, an open information event was held for the residents of the Municipality of Kozani, in the area of Platania, on the corner of Kakridi & Sikelianou Street, where instructions were given for the operation of the new innovative system separate collection and proper management of Hazardous Household Waste (HWW), which is implemented within the LIFE – Circular Greece program.

At the event, the special collection bin was presented as well as smaller special separate collection bins that will be placed in pharmacies, hair salons and color shops. The mobile EOA collection vehicle that will serve all of Western Macedonia was also presented. The collection network starts with the special bin that has been installed in Kozani and will be extended throughout Western Macedonia.

Hazardous Household Waste (HHW) are small amounts of waste produced in households and usually end up in the common (green) bins of mixed waste, making the further process of their recovery much more difficult and reducing the value of the materials recovered from common waste.

The waste of domestic origin, which is included in the category of EOA, is: i) materials with chemical substances, such as personal care products (acetone, nail polish), detergents (clothes, dishes, etc.), sealants, paints, glues, varnishes, insecticides/pesticides , aerosol/spray, ii) expired medicines, iii) infectious waste (needles, gauze, catheters etc), iv) mercury thermometers, v) batteries, vi) printer inks and toners, vii) lamps and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)).

In these special bins, we only recycle Household Hazardous Waste packaging that has contents. Empty packaging (without content) will be placed in the conventional recycling bins of the Municipalities, depending on their type (plastic, metal, glass, paper).

Especially for Household Batteries, Light Bulbs, Small Electrical & Electronic Devices and Expired Medicines, for which separate collection programs are already implemented, citizens should look for the special bins in shops, services and DIADYMA facilities.
