The Municipality of Kozani participated in the 1st International Conference entitled “Climate Change and New Technologies”, held in Kalamata, on May 12, 2023. The conference was organized by the Municipality of Kalamata in collaboration with the University of Peloponnese and the Union of Greek Physicists.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference speakers came from a wide range of institutions, including Municipalities, Universities and Research Centers. The European Mission “100 Climate Neutral & Smart Cities by 2030”, in which the mayor of Kozani, Lazaros Maloutas participated as a speaker was the main topic. <\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Maloutas referred to the goals set by the Municipality of Kozani for 2030, typically stating that “Kozani and Western Macedonia linked their development to lignite and fossil fuels. 40% of income generation was based on energy activity, so the challenge to get away from that is huge. For this reason, the big bet for the Municipality of Kozani is the transition to a new development and production model.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was critical for us that we would join the European Mission for Europe’s 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030. Digital transformation and climate neutrality are the future. These will be the dominant global, European and Greek issues in the coming years.<\/span><\/p>\n

The challenge that the 6 Greek cities, as well as the rest of the European cities that participate in the Cities Mission, have to face is very big. Let’s not forget that the goal is to achieve climate neutrality by 2030, that is, 20 years earlier than the rest of Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, the effort of the six cities is a Greek effort and the Greek government, whoever it is, must deal with it in this way. In other words, to help and support the Greek cities, as these six will be the “showcase” of our country in the European Union”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Athens, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Kalamata, Kozani and Trikala are the six Greek cities that have been selected to participate in the European Mission of Cities to become Climate Neutral and Smart by 2030.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
